Red Light Therapy for Pet Health - by Anna Webb

Every pet ‘parent’ knows how the journey with their ‘bestfriend’ comes with its life’s ups and downs.

If it’s involving an injury or post-operative care, this could mean time consuming and expensive trips to the vet or referrrals to animal physiotherapists, hydrotherapy or massage practitioners.

Other issues overtime like atopic skin conditions, anxiety related behaviour issues and keeping a spring in your older dog’s step can become overwhelming.

This is why the multi-functional, non-invasive red light therapy device, Photizo Vetcare, was designed by animal physiotherapists for use at home as well as in-practice.

Since its launch over a decade ago, it has been embraced by wellness practitioners, massage professionals, naturopaths, as well as vets and vet nurses globally. As well as by thousands of pet parents!

The device is completely ‘multi-species’ and not limited to dogs, cats and horses. Helping the entire animal kingdom from tigers, pangolins, squirrels, hedgehogs, birds of prey, guinea pigs and rabbits have all treated successfully with Photizo’s Vetcare.

In fact, the latest CE approved range for people including Pain Relief, Sports, Skincare and the beauty model, Blush, prove the generic effects of Photobiomodulation – the official term for the systemic effects of red and near Infrared light.

The Photizo range has been delivered after years of research and using the latest LED (Light Emitting Diodes) technology. Making the range safe to use without protective goggles sets it apart as easy and safe to use not just in practice, but at home too!

It’s perfect to offer top up care in-between visits to the vet or rehabilitation specialists as well as working preventatively to keep older dogs and cats more mobile.

As well as helping to soothe and heal persistent atopic conditions, the Vetcare also speeds up wound healing from minor cuts, grazes and insect bites.  Additionally recent science concurs on its release of dopamine and endorphins, that helping counter the effects of stress and anxiety.

It is so easy to use with pre-programmed 30 seconds doses of evidence based red and near-infrared light. This penetrates beneath the skin surface producing a cascade of biological effects.

By increasing blood flow and lymphatic flow to the affected area, the Vetcare reduces inflammation and pain. By encouraging oxygen and nutrients to injured and inflamed areas, it facilitates natural healing at a cellular level, which accumulates overtime.

As Photizo Vetcare is so compact and rechargeable, it’s easy to use literally anywhere, which is why many competition agilty dogs are great fans. As it enables handlers to warm up their muscles before competing, and to cool them down as well as helping to keep them in tip-top condition.

The Photizo Vetcare comes in a silent version, which means it doesn’t emit beeps to signal when the 30 second dose starts and finishes.  The silent version is hugely popular with noise sensitive dogs and with cats.

With over 41 per cent of the pandemic generation of dogs showing fear and avoidance behaviours and 77 per cent showing an inability to settle with attention seeking behaviours *, the Vetcare may provide benefit to calm to help pet parents with socialisation issues, as well as helping dogs inparticular to settle in their own company and learn to become more confident (in conjunction with positive-reward based dog training) in a variety of different situations.

We’re only scratching the surface of the huge benefits of Photobiomodulation not only in animals but in people too. With the 30th World Association of Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM2024) – a world-class, three-day conference about to be staged in London, 23-25 August, it’s an opportunity to discover the world of photobiomodulation/red light therapy, which continues to expand and promote wellness to humans and animals on many levels.
